Insurance Terms Explained
Prior Authorization
Approval from your insurer required before a service is covered. Request it before starting therapy to avoid denials.
In-Network
Providers who have a contract with your insurance plan. Out-of-network providers may cost more or not be covered at all.
ABA Coverage
Applied Behavior Analysis therapy. Georgia law (Ava's Law) requires many plans to cover ABA for autism. Medicaid covers ABA through CMOs.
Medical Necessity
Insurers require documentation showing a service is medically needed, often including a diagnosis and prescription.
EPSDT
Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment — a Medicaid benefit for children under 21 that can cover autism services beyond standard limits.
